Marion Herlet

Many of my most favourite pieces of clothing and fabrics have had patterns on them. Holding fond memories of fleeting moments, heartwarming encounters and experiences of lightness and laughter they have become meaningful companions that I grew to love and cherish over time.
I enjoy a sense of humour and the playfulness of motives that create conversation. My themes are slightly whimsical and evoke a subtle curiosity to look closer and discover what is being seen. Working in repeating patterns is a fascinating process and I love to achieve an overall harmony with that little detail dancing out of line.
Colour is very important to me. I have always marvelled at the discovery of colour giving rise to form and a different pallet can truly change everything about the work. I often include abstract colour sketches that stay in their original tones and textures. Once I bring my work into a digital medium it leads to unusual and interesting new colour combinations. I love surprising myself in the process of creating.
