Marta Castiglioni

All my work begins with drawing elements that make up my experience. Each pattern is infused with fragments of personal and cultural memory woven into layers with abstract textures, patterns and shapes.
I am intrigued and inspired by the vibrant interdependence of an ecological system in itself and its relationship with people, especially in the realm of indigenous knowledge and crafts.
While I tell the story I both celebrate imperfections and strive for precision and discipline. I enjoy exploring the space between intricate and minimal, complex yet utterly simple, always with a feel for fluidity of mark, texture and hand drawn expression. I enjoy juxtaposing bold and organic, geometric and delicate. As the patterns unfold in the endless interdependence of lines and colours meeting each other they invoke a sense of timeless intrigue, untangling a tale.
